    motherofduality:

Over the course of my childhood, my mom went from working (in a fast food restaurant, because she didn’t know enough English to do anything else) to being a stay-at-home mom (because my dad’s new job meant she could get a degree and spend time with Brother* and me) to working again (because I…

“Every one of those decisions was equally “good”, as they were the best choices she could make for her and her family. She didn’t choose to stop working because she was lazy or because of some outdated idea of what women should do, but because she decided it was the best choice for all of us.”

    Thank you!

I’ve gone from being a SAHM the first several months of my daughter’s life to putting her in daycare part-time while I finished school to putting her in full-time while I worked to now having the summer off to be a SAHM again.

I would personally like to be a SAHM for quite a while, but that doesn’t mean the decision would make me more “right” than working mothers, and it also doesn’t mean I’m lazy in any way.

I was raised by a SAHM. It wasn’t that we had the income to do such- we certainly did not- but the cost of childcare would have most likely taken up someone’s paycheck.  My sister also had chronic ear infections as a toddler which affected her language development, so from ages 3-6 she was in intensive speech therapy. My mom started working when I was 17 and my sister was 13 and says that she does regret not doing it earlier.

My mom certainly wasn’t “lazy” as a SAHM, not with the mischief my sister and I managed to get into. I said once before the closest thing my mom had to “soap operas” as I was growing up was when someone dumped a box of detergent into the washing machine.

Different strokes for different folks… my sister prefers to be a working mom when she has kids. I’ve decided not to have children at all.

I'm single, Italian, Leo, and sarcastic. I don't hate men, I just hate the way some act. I'm pro-choice, feel everyone should be allowed to get married by the state, and a feminist who believes that no gender should be made to feel inferior to another.

BTW, you may see stuff from me show up as FrayedEdges. That's my default name and my art-related blog on here!!! :-)
