May
that baby is already embarrassed of her parents.
How much extra in debt would you be if you lost your insurance and had to pay sticker price for your prenatal care and birth?
Hey, maybe one day, when your baby loses their job because of “corporate downsizing” or whatever, they can still see a doctor and afford medication or whatever. Crazy!
How much debt would that she be in if the healthcare LAW wasn’t passed and, heaven forbid, her baby had to spend time in the NICU and her insurance decided not to pay for it? Or if her baby requires a little extra care after birth and insurance decided not to treat it?
Or how much debt would her baby-turned-adult be in if they had the audacity to fall, break their leg in the middle of nowhere, and get treated at the nearest hospital- only to find out the closest ER was out of network and they should have gone to the approved one an addition 100 miles away? Yea, THAT happened to me and my insurance expected me to…
- Have someone drive me 130 miles to the approved hospital (with the mood I was in, my parents would NOT have survived that trip. They barely survived the 30 miles we DID drive!)
- Wait until MONDAY to call and get pre-approval for an ER visit. I fell on a Sunday morning. I “should” have called on Monday for approval.
- Wait until TUESDAY to actually SEE a doctor, once I received my approval. I asked the claims agent if she would do that and she said “Sure! If that’s what I had to do!”. I asked her how would she eat? Get to the bathroom? She hung up on me. Guess she wouldn’t do it after all.
I had to cough up $3500 for my nerve. Luckily, the hospital forgave their portion (thank you patient assistance!!) and my specialist put me on a payment plan.
