"As the argument that GLBTs are unsuited by nature for national security has dissipated, the argument against queer military service has boiled down to the most despicable dynamic that discrimination relies on: that it is the object of discrimination who causes the problem, not those who discriminate or tolerate discrimination. Thus, the gay man or lesbian becomes the problem to be eliminated, not the intolerance and prejudice of those around hir. This is the point made by this story (in case you needed clarity on this issue) in which GLBT soldiers raise concerns about whether they will be harmed by other soldiers if DADT is repealed. And it is why numerous GLBT students are being told by public school districts to stay home and complete their high school diplomas via distance learning: because if a kid is being bullied and tortured in school, the best thing to do is remove the kid, right? No matter that it is the school principal’s job to ensure that no child is bullied or harmed — just as it is the officer and NCO’s job to ensure good order in any given unit."

I was the bullied kid that was removed from the school and sure, it solved *my* problems and removed me from everything, but ya know what… it should have been addressed by the school.  Those bullies know that in hindsight.  Know why? Because when those people were removed from that safe, cozy, school environment built on a foundation of “if it’s different, pick on it” they received a healthy dose of reality.  They learned it does NOT fly in college, in the workplace, out in public.  Those people lost their jobs for different types harrassment (especially sexual harassment), were beat up in bars during college and post-college days, etc.  They were fired by people who were not willing to tolerate the bullshit that these people were taught was OK during grades K-12, beat up by the people who were like those they picked on in school- different from themselves.

If you were a girl who teased me about sewing and brought me your heavily-beaded wedding dress later in life, be assured while I was nice to your face, your wedding dress as a few choice words added into the design of the beadwork :-)

I'm single, Italian, Leo, and sarcastic. I don't hate men, I just hate the way some act. I'm pro-choice, feel everyone should be allowed to get married by the state, and a feminist who believes that no gender should be made to feel inferior to another.

BTW, you may see stuff from me show up as FrayedEdges. That's my default name and my art-related blog on here!!! :-)
